Haiti has approximately 2 neurosurgeons available to provide care to a population of 10 million people.
In this extremely underserved environment, patients suffer from treatable neurosurgical conditions simply because they do not have access to care.
Haiti Neurosurgery Initiative (HNI) aims to provide high-quality pre-operative, operative, and post-operative neurosurgical care for the Haitian populace.
We have partnered with l'Hôpital Universitaire de Mirebalais (HUM), rural Haiti's first teaching hospital, to supply senior neurosurgical residents and faculty neurosurgeons on a rotational basis.
In addition, we aim to sustain neurosurgical care in the area by educating community health workers to recognize neurosurgical pathology and improve referral patterns and training Haitian physicians in the complex field of neurosurgery.
